We know that our customers hire vehicles for many different reasons, and have many different refueling needs. For your convenience, we offer 4 different refueling options:

– Bring Back Full If you bring the vehicle back full, or at the same level as the vehicle was picked up at, there won't be any charge. If there happens to be any missing fuel at the start, and it isn't the same as your rental agreement, please let one of our staff know or take a picture if you are in a hurry.

– Fuel Up Front This option allows you to purchase a full tank of fuel at a lower price per litre than our Pay on Return rates. You pay one flat fee for any amount of fuel, so try to return it as close to empty as you can to get the best value. If the vehicle is returned full, we do not charge you for Fuel Up Front.

– EZ Fuel If you drive for 75 miles (120 km) or less you can pre-pay a flat fee and we will take care of refuelling. If you choose to refuel yourself, please keep the receipt and present it when you return the vehicle.

– Pay On Return If you don’t have the time to refuel and haven’t taken Fuel Up Front, we can do it for you. Please keep in mind that this will incur a small fee.

Yes, we do have vehicles with roof/ski racks available, however unfortunately not all of our vehicles at every location. This service is available at certain rental locations and may depend on the vehicle category selected.

For more information check out our location specific terms and conditions for the rental location. Alternatively you may also contact via the icons below to speak with one of our agents.

Unfortunately, you would not be able to collect your vehicle if our office is closed. However, if your flight number is present in your booking, we'll be aware of any delay to your flight and will endeavour to keep the vehicle for you. It's imperative you provide your flight number when you book, otherwise we have no way of knowing if your flight is delayed.

If you or any additional drivers are under the age of 25, you'll need to pay an extra fee (underage surcharge) per day. Yes, of course. We understand you want to share the joy with others so we make it easy for you to add another driver. Your additional driver will simply follow the same hire rules as you. The only thing you need to do differently is pay to add them, so they're covered under your hire agreement. Remember, we need to see all drivers' licences when you collect your hire vehicle. Please note that for additional drivers under the age of 25, a young driver's surcharge will apply. The amount you'll pay will be in your online quote. In some countries, drivers who share a surname don't have to pay more. The amount varies by country and will be clear when you book your hire vehicle online.

Whether you're hiring a car or van, you just need a clean driving licence that covers the vehicle you're hiring. Don't worry if you have points on your driving licence. You can still hire a car if you have six or less points. You must have held your driving licence for at least one year and it must be from the country you live in. Please remember to bring your driving licence with you when you collect your vehicle. If you're driving abroad, you and your additional driver will also need to bring your International Driving Permits. Very few insurance policies cover you to drive a hire car. Even if you can provide evidence that it does, unfortunately we won't be able to reduce the amount you pay. This is because the rental agreement is between you and us, not us and your insurance company. Damage cover is included as standard with your rental. Should you have an accident, you will still need to pay a fixed (excess) fee – unless you choose to upgrade your cover. However, you could choose to claim this back through your insurance company. But bear in mind any excess fee you may have with your current insurance policy. Of course, please feel free to bring your own child seats when you collect your hire vehicle. Just remember to bring all the fittings you need to securely attach it. Not all our vehicles have ISOFIX points, so please contact the location you're hiring from. We'll try our best to help. Alternatively simply reserve a child seat when you book your hire vehicle. You can also hire baby and infant booster seats. All our child seats meet the highest industry standards, because we understand how important your child's safety is. Remember, if your child is below the age of 12 or under 135cm, by law you must use an appropriate seat. This is to help protect your child in a collision because normal seat belts are designed to fit adults in the stronger shoulder and hip areas. Unfortunately normal seat belts support a child in the wrong place. Find out more about hiring child seats. The excess is the amount you pay if something goes wrong during your journey, for example damage or theft of the vehicle. The amount you pay depends on the vehicle you hire, which country you hire it in and whether you choose to reduce the excess by upgrading your level of cover. When you hire a vehicle with us, you'll automatically receive third party, vehicle damage (Collision Damage Waiver) and vehicle theft cover to safeguard you on your journey. If you book on the US website you may find that vehicle damage and vehicle theft cover are not included, as some American credit cards provide insurance for car hire. Third party cover is the basic level you need to hire a vehicle – that's why we always include it. Should you damage another vehicle or passengers and their property, you won't have to pay for repairs or injuries. But, if you have an accident you will still need to pay a fixed excess fee – unless you upgrade your cover. Find out how much you pay depending on what you hire and where you hire it. We also offer Personal Accident Insurance in case you're injured in an accident, however this must be purchased at the counter.

Your booking typically includes Collision Damage Waiver (vehicle damage cover), vehicle theft cover, tax, location charges and, depending on the location car and rate, unlimited mileage. But unless you let us know, it does not include young driver charges, additional driver charges, fuel, upgraded cover, or optional extras such as additional equipment or out-of-hours services. Please bear in mind your booking fee will never include any parking or traffic violations. If you are unsure what your booking includes, please refer to your booking confirmation.

You can redeem your coupon over the phone or in person at your hire station. Coupons cannot currently be used online. However, you can still book your vehicle online and redeem your coupon over the counter. Please note that coupons can only be used on 'pay on collection' bookings.

Of course, you can take your hire car to a festival. However, as you are responsible for the vehicle during the rental period you will be liable if, for example, the car gets stuck in a field. You would need to arrange and pay for towing to get back on the road. Don't forget to review the terms and conditions when you book, which include everything you need to know ahead of your journey. In some countries however there can be restrictions applied to this topic. Please always check the location specific terms and conditions  before you start your trip.

We offer many cars in different styles and sizes, so you can hire the perfect model for your journey. These cars belong to various groups, such as Group A or Group J.

Ordering cars into groups helps us provide a premium service, because there is never any confusion over the car you are hiring and whether you're eligible to drive it. Sometimes you're only eligible to hire cars from certain groups. For example, in the UK if you hire a car under the age of 25 you can choose from Group A (such as a Hyundai i10), Group B (such as a Ford Fiesta), Group C (such as a Seat Leon), Group E (such as Vauxhall Astra) or Group I (such as VW Golf Auto).

The car groups also help you understand useful information, such as the amount you pay (the excess) if you're involved in an accident, which can vary from group to group.

While we try to provide our service to everyone who books a vehicle, there may be circumstances where we cannot give you a vehicle. Some of these scenarios are below:

  • If you did not satisfy the driving licence requirements: A valid driving licence must be provided. An international driving licence or an official English translation, by notary, of the driving licence must be provided if the driving licence was issued in a non-roman alphabet. Additionally, the driver must have held the licence for a minimum of one year, evidence is required to be provided to confirm this minimum duration.
  • If you did not satisfy the identification/security check: you must provide the following documents: The payment card used to make the reservation (plus an additional card is required for certain vehicles), a photographic ID issued within the last 10 years, passports, photographic driving licences, national identity cards and government issued certificates are accepted, proof of address, a recent utility bill or bank statement (driving licences are not accepted as proof of address).
  • If you had Insufficient funds for the pre-authorisation transaction to be processed
  • If you were not within the required age range for the vehicle type
  • If you have any unspent driving convictions
  • If you did not show up at the rental location to collect the vehicle as per the reservation details
  • If you refused to take the vehicle provided and would not accept a replacement vehicle

To hire a car in Norway, you need to be at least 19 years of age at the moment of collecting the vehicle and have held a driving licence for at least one year. A higher minimum age limit may apply to certain vehicles.

If you or your additional drivers are under the age of 25, you'll need to pay an extra fee per day. The amount depends on where you hire a car, because the law and insurance terms vary between countries, but you can expect it to be around 195 NOK per day per driver. If the location charges a premium fee, it could cost more. The minimum age you can hire a car also varies from country to country. Under the age of 25, you can hire cars from Group A, Group B, Group C, Group E, and Group I for example. Check out our fleet to find further information about specific categories.

There is currently no age maximum, so long as you have had a full, valid, licence for at least 1 year. Check the location specific terms and conditions for the country you are renting for more information on age requirements.

You just need to bring your:

  • Driving licence
  • Credit card (if it’s a high value vehicle two payment cards must be provided, one of which needs to be a credit card),
  • Proof of any discount (such as a frequent flyer card),
  • Photo ID (such as a passport or driving licence with photo)

You may also need to bring proof of where you live, which could include a recent utility bill or bank statement.  For more information on the rental requirements where you wish to rent, please review our location specific terms and conditions.

Lastly, if you booked online or over the phone, bringing a print out of your booking confirmation showing your unique booking reference can streamline your check-out process. If you booked through a travel agent or third party agent, you will also need to bring the voucher they have supplied.

It’s simple. Hit the book button online and fill in your details straight away.

Use the button on the booking confirmation page to get started. To complete QuickPass, we need a few details from you – so have your driving licence and payment card ready. Enter all your details, customise your rental and click done. It’s really that easy.

Don’t have your details to hand? Don’t sweat it. You’ll have plenty chances to do this before your rental. If you forget, we’ll send an email reminder.

When you arrive at Heathrow Airport (excluding Terminal 5) and you have collected your luggage from the luggage reclaim we would ask that you call ahead for a shuttle bus and it will depart from our office to collect you from the terminal you arrived at and take you to our Avis Budget office at the airport. It can take approximately 10 to 15 minutes for the shuttle bus to reach the terminal you arrived at, dependent upon road traffic, hence the request to call in advance due to the current situation and environment.  Our buses do run on a schedule to each terminal 7 days a week between the times of 5:30am to 11:30pm daily, but by calling ahead we will be aware of your arrival. The number to call is 0208 754 7150.
